How To Become A Leader In Network Marketing

How to become a leader in network marketing

It’s simple to become a leader in network marketing once you understand how simple
    and how easy leadership is.

The first step in knowing how to become a great leader in network marketing is knowing what great leaders DON’T do.

I was on a call with a VERY strong leader on my team…

…but he said something that I find is one of the reasons why a lot of leaders don’t rise up to the potential that they have within’ them.

If you want to be a bad leader…

You should say things and act in a manner that is not consistent with the greatest leader that you want to be.

What man bad ‘leaders’ will say things like, “Once I achieve a certain level of leadership…

Once I achieve a certain level of income or rank, THEN I will be a great leader and then act like that great leader.”

This, obviously, is not the way to becoming a leader.

So, the leader on my team said, “Well, I’m not like you!”.

Whenever you say something like “Well, I’m not like you”, you’re saying that you’re not as good as someone else.

You’re always going to be second best…

Second best thinkers are always second-best doers.

As long as you keep saying, “I’m not an expert”, you’re never going to be the expert!

A leader in network marketing acts as if…

You’ve got to act as if you already are the greatest leader of all time.

Stop saying things that a top leader in your company would not say.

    Sounds fairly simple, right?

If you take the top leader in your company – the person that you aspire to be like – look a the things they say.

    Study their mannerisms…

    Their vocabulary and speech patterns…

Take all of this and simply to do things that leader would do.

I remember when I was new and had a team that grew to a few hundred people.

My mentor pulled me aside and said, “You’re a leader when you decide to be. You’re a leader when you act like a leader.”

Such a simple statement was so profound for me at the time, however, it didn’t truly click for me until putting my buddy and me through a demonstration…

    Leaders lead… right?

My buddy and I were standing next to each other asking my mentor more about leadership…

He moved his head (in a “follow me” fashion) and started walking around the car.

My buddy and I started walking around the car where he was.

We walked all the way around the car and then we stopped.

My mentor asked, “what just happened?”.

    He led…

    We followed.

    That’s what great leaders do.

What are the greatest things that a leader would do?

    Ask yourself…

“What would an incredible leader do?”

I asked myself this question and came to the conclusion: Great leaders would do a weekly leadership call every Monday night!

So, I read books and studied leadership.

I’d read John Maxwell books, network marketing books and anything I could get my hands on!

    I took notes profusely!

Guess what I talked about on our leadership calls?

    I just read my notes!

Literally, I would read my notes from what I had read and learned and would spit the information out to my group.

An interesting thing started to happen…

I suddenly had so many people saying, “Oh my God, Matt! You’re this amazing leader. I can’t believe the information that you give us. I can’t believe the mentorship that you give us!”.

This was the “holy shit!” moment…

    People want to follow others…

You will only lead others if people perceive you to be at a higher level leader than themselves.

    Notice the keyword: Perceive.

If you act like a leader, people will perceive you as a leader that they want to follow.

    It’s as simple as that…

Leadership is incredibly simple once you understand how simple and easy leadership really is.

Everyone thinks leadership is so hard when in reality, asll you have to do is the things that a leader would do.

    If you feel unconfident…

Do the thing anyway! Nobody knows that you’re unconfident.

    If you’re scared…

Do the thing you’re scared of! Nobody knows you’re scared except for you.

    If you’re fearful…

Do the thing that you’re afraid of over and over again.

    Why?

The more you do it, the more the fear goes away.

Eventually, you will become confident inside, you won’t feel the knots in your stomach, and you’ll rise to the level internally that you ultimately want to be.

You’ll feel like the leader you’ve always wanted to be.

  • How To Overcome Objections in Network Marketing

How To Overcome Objections in Network Marketing

How To Overcome Objections In Network Marketing

Recently I was asked, “How do you overcome objections in network marketing?
Specifically, the “I’ll join when I’ve seen you’ve had success” objection.

How to overcome objections in network marketing

Specifically, how do we overcome the objection: “I’ll join when I’ve seen you’ve had success.”.

    A couple of things:

First – Someone who says something like that is NOT the person that I want to work with.

You see, when most people are new to network marketing, they have kind of a needy mentality…

…they feel like they need people to join their organization regardless of WHO joins.

I always joke about when I first got started…

There was a little compact mirror that I brought with me EVERYWHERE I went…

I’d put that mirror up to someone’s nose and if they would fog it up then I would show them!

    Did I really do this?

Of course not! (Not for very long, at least. People started to get weirded out…)

I tell this story to prove a point:

You should show just about everyone…

Whether you think they’re going to join or not. You can’t prejudge.

One of the reasons I struggled so long is because I tried to read people’s minds…

Determine if they were going to build a business or not.

This inhibited me from approaching people that could have brought in a ton of business.

    So, show everyone!

    BUT…

While you have the mentality of showing everyone…

You want to have an abundance mindset.

You want to realize there are A LOT of people.

The way I look at building my organization is this:

I’m the CEO of my own business.

As CEO, I am not looking for low-level employees…

    I’m looking for high-level people.

    For presidents…

    Vice presidents…

    I’m looking for my generals!

Is it even necessary to overcome this objection?

If someone is going to give me crazy objections…

I don’t need them on my team.

    Why?

Because there are millions of people out there to prospect.

When you have a scarcity mindset, you feel like you’ve got to close these people…

Like you’ve got to close everyone you’re in front of.

I don’t care how good you are, you’re never going to close everyone you get in front of.

Approach every situation with the perspective that if someone is coachable and teachable…

If they lock arms with me, I can change their life forever.

I can change the life of their grandchildren and their financial destiny for their family!

With this perspective – I approach every encounter as not being need.

If they’re not willing to help themselves then I’m going to politely move on to someone else.

    Be confident but never arrogant.

If you choose to overcome this objection:

Typically if you’re getting that objection, you don’t have enough certainty.

    I’ll tell you this:

The reason why people largely don’t have credibility with their prospects is usually that you don’t believe they have enough credibility.

They’re not showing up with enough certainty that transmits a feeling of leadership or power that you are going to win with this.

If you want to bump up your certainty and level of leadership…

You may want to bump up your confidence.

The more you bump that up, the less you will get that objection.

So, enough on mindset – let’s get into some tactics of overcoming this objection in network marketing

First, you can overcome objections in network marketing by bringing them to someone in your up-line, someone else who is making money.

Someone who has the credibility you’re looking for…

Second, If you want some words to say, you can smile and say something like:

“Dude, that’s like saying you’re gonna go to the gym once you see that I get in shape. Obviously you don’t join a gym and get in shape in a week. It takes some time to get in shape. And if you wait for the next six months or a year before I’m in amazing shape, you’re gonna be six months or a year behind me. So that objection doesn’t make any sense my friend. Are you ready to get started?”

    Close early and close often.

Here’s what I mean by close early: When a presentation is over…

    Don’t go into sales mode.

The business should be amazingly simple and when your presentation is over…

    GO FOR THE ASK!

Ask if they’re ready to partner up with you.

If you go through the presentation and do another 10-15 minutes of salesmanship, they think they have to do the exact same thing.

So simply, finish the information & close the sale.

Now, they give you an objection…

Them: “I’ll join when you’re making money.”

You: Dude that doesn’t make any sense. That’s like saying that you’re gonna get in shape after I’ve gotten in shape. You know you don’t join a gym and then have six-pack abs in a week. It takes a while to develop that, right? Just like any business. And so if you wait six months or a year you’re gonna be six months or a year behind me. So my suggestion is let’s get in shape together, let’s start making money together and let’s go build a big business. You’re ready to get started?

Handle the objection then close again.

Don’t get psychologically tied to this one person and their objection…

That will cost you your success.

    Go make it happen.

  • The 3 Components Of Leadership In Network Marketing

The 3 Components Of Leadership In Network Marketing

The 3 Components Of Leadership - Blog - Thumbnail

The 3 Components of Leadership in Network Marketing

Let’s talk about leadership in network marketing

Specifically, the three components that determine leadership effectiveness.

Listen, I’ve discovered these components of leadership in network marketing to be true after 24 years as an entrepreneur…

    Building sales teams…

Sculpting organizations and working with well over a million customers (a lot of those customers becoming Millionaires)…

    And becoming a multi-millionaire myself.

I’ll tell you leadership is definitely not an inborn skill or ability I was born with.

I don’t know of anything that I can look to that says, “Wow, he’s naturally talented”.

Some people are naturally talented with the Gift of Gab,

Or they really care about people and are intuitive…

…But for me? I never really felt I had a talent.

If I did it would probably be that I am amazingly determined.

I wasn’t determined to be the best athlete…

Wasn’t determined to make the best grades…

But when I became an entrepreneur and I got immersed in the world of personal development, I got very determined to succeed in business.

The 3 Components of leadership in network marketing you must develop in order to be successful

These components I had to develop over a lot of years of failure.

We fail our way forward with a lot of trial & errors, mistakes, and mishaps.

The founder of IBM says, “If you want to greatly increase your success in life… double your rate of failure.”

I equated failure to success and I think it’s a connection that a lot of people don’t make.

Where the only way to succeed massively is actually to fail.

I don’t know any entrepreneur who has not failed.

    Component 1: Internal Mastery

    Essentially self-leadership.

Your ability to succeed and your ability to be a great leader is your internal mastery.

It’s your inner game and I believe of the three this is the most powerful.

If you don’t master your mind, you can’t master anything in the outer world.

Your outer world is always a reflection of your inner world.

You cannot lead other people effectively unless you can actually lead yourself…

You’ll always be incongruent & unable to show up powerfully (which people can sense).

    What exactly is Internal Mastery?

    Self-confidence:

How confident are you in your ability to go out and create results?

    What is your level of:

    Ambition?

    Motivation?

    Discipline?

    Willpower?

Ability to break through your fears?

How do you deal with disapp0intments?

Entrepreneurs often get so disappointed and frustrated that they get into the blame game…

This blame game demonstrates that they don’t have the internal mastery to succeed and so they just give up!

There are going to be a lot of things that mess with your head on this journey to success & if you don’t learn to master your emotions and control your emotional state…

    You’ll get derailed and quit.

The reason why most people don’t succeed has nothing to do with skills…

Your ability to succeed in any kind of business whether it’s network marketing, internet marketing, or whatever it is…

Has everything to do with the ability or lack of ability to have the proper emotional states.

If you’re, for instance, a bad communicator and you believe you can’t succeed because you can’t communicate…

    That’s bullshit!

You can become a great communicator.

    I was an awful communicator…

…but I had the will power, courage, work ethic, and determination to fail over and over while not being myself up.

How do you master your internal game?

Through personal development and taking massive action.

You’ve got to develop the willpower.

I may suck in a lot of things, but nobody is going to outwork me.

I’m going to go and produce results.

How else do you master this first component?

    Through education.

Those who are the most successful often have a MASSIVE library.

We are who we are based on the books we’ve read, the people we’re around and the audios we’ve listened to.

So, we are the sum of what we know and the environment we’ve created for ourselves.

Create an environment of personal development.

    Component 2: External Mastery

Your ability to execute on the things that you need to execute on.

If you’re in network marketing: your ability to invite someone to see a sales presentation…

    The ability to close…

    To follow up…

    Ability to get someone started.

If you’re in internet marketing it could be your ability to write copy, understand persuasion and psychological triggers that cause people to actually take action.

Doing your due diligence in increasing your competence is essential if you want to succeed.

If you want to be hugely successful in any field…

You must become an expert in that field means that you’re in the top 1% knowledge level compared to everyone else.

    I’ve got good news…

It’s not hard at all to get in the top 1%.

    This is easy!

    Why?

    Most people are lazy.

If you read 5 books on the subject…

You’re in the top 1% knowledge level compared to everyone else.

    So, if you’re not lazy…

Get excited that you’re going to profit on everyone else’s laziness!

If you really want to increase your external mastery

    Read more than 5 books…

Consume 30+ books on the subject you’re wanting to master.

    Attend seminars…

And get your 10,000 hours of practice in.

This will get you in the top 1% of 1% knowledge level.

It’s not difficult… it just takes work.

Take the knowledge and IMMEDIATELY take action on that knowledge.

    If you’re struggling in sales…

Read sales books, grab a few sales courses, and immediately go out and practice what you’ve learned.

If you’re looking to increase your leadership in network marketing – the same applies.

The more you learn and increase your competence… The more you’ll increase your confidence.

Realize, however, that if how-to’s and tactics were enough then we’d all be rich, skinny, and happy.

The outer game will help your inner game.

Component 3: Your relationships and influence

This is your ability to move people…

    Your ability to solidify relationships.

    If you sell products online…

You still have to create relationships with those individuals so that they know, like, and trust you.

It’s your ability to care about other people; putting them first and encouraging their dreams.

    Do you recognize people?

    If not – realize…

People will do way more for recognition than they will for the money.

Do you naturally believe in other people?

If not – realize… If you can believe in someone more than they believe in themselves then this will increase their confidence. They end up believing in themselves which creates motivation…

With this new motivation, they’re more likely to go take action.

You must be able to move people and cause other people to do things that are in their best interests, not your own.

    Don’t manage people…

    Lead people.

If you were to grade yourself on a scale of 1-10:

Where are you in your internal mastery?

The external mastery of your skills?

Where are you with your ability to motivate other people?

    Your relationships and influence?

How connected are you to people?

Develop and work on each of these components of leadership in network marketing or any other business you’re a part of.

  • How To Increase Duplication In Network Marketing

How To Increase Duplication In Network Marketing

    Increase Duplication In Network Marketing

It can be challenging when looking to increase duplication in Network Marketing…

How to increase duplication in network marketing

    It’s simple:

If you duplicate, your organization grows.

Don’t duplicate and your organization suffers.

When first getting started in sales, I read every book on sales imaginable.

One of the things I learned was: “If you assume the sale, you’re more likely to make the sale.”

This applies when thinking of the opposite as well: “If you assume you’re not going to make the sale, you’re less likely to make the sale.”

I think we must be very, very conscious with words. Our words shape our reality.

Let’s take this principle into duplication within’ your organization…

Duplication in your network marketing organization

Alright! You’ve got a meeting set up & you’re about to go meet your prospect to show them your product, service or opportunity…

    What do you say?

Most people would typically say to themselves, their spouse, or someone on their team is, “Hey, I’m going to go show the presentation!” right?

Realize – when you say ” I’m going to go the presentation” there is no assumption that they’re going to get started.

So, what can you say that would be better?

Side note – this is for your own programming!*

Go say something that’s more powerful!

You might say, “I’m going to go enroll a new person.” Right? You’re assuming that they are going to get started.

Something even better would be “I’m going to launch a new team!”.

Sometimes we don’t naturally say “I’m going to launch a new team” because we’re just showing it to one person and we don’t equate one person to a whole team.

    However, if you think deeper…

    How do teams get created?

It starts with one person that says “come partner with me” and BAMM! Soon you have a team.

Once we’ve programmed our thinking… It’s time to future pace our prospect

When sitting down with a prospect, ASSUME that they’re going to have a lot more success.

We are going to pre-frame or future pace our prospect…

When we do this, what we’re really doing is telling their mind what their future is going to look like when they join.

During your presentation, you might say something like this: “WHEN you get started with us, you’re going to plug into our Saturday training. Once you start building a team, you’re going to have, on average, about one or two rock stars out of every ten people that get involved with you.”.

Why do we say this in advance?

Because we want their mindset to act as if they’re already in!

If you want to increase duplication in your organization you must be different and tell the truth!

Let them know it’s going to be tough and they will face objections.

    Why?

    For one, its the truth!

Secondly, I don’t want them thinking before they joint that everyone’s going to join. I want to be real with them and if that scares them off, that’s something I wanted.

One of the biggest reasons people quit network marketing is false expectations. They expected it to be so great and it wasn’t.

They expected it to be easy and it wasn’t so never tell someone it’s easy.

    Third, it builds trust!

Telling your prospect something that’s a ‘potential negative’ is good! This way they look at you and go, “oh wow! This guy is really honest because he’s actually telling me something negative about the products, services or opportunity.”

    Final points

    Set expectations.

If you’re worried about scaring people off…

Those are the people you want to scare off.

Speak to your prospect and assume their success like they’re going to build a big business…

Like they are going to be on stage…

As if they are going to have their own team.

How do you increase duplication in network marketing?

Have the mindset that your prospect is not just joining you, but building a big organization…

They’re going to be a leader.

Guess what happens when you do this…

    They become a leader.
